■ Background to the Establishment of the Mission Statement

The new Mission Statement is “Digital technology — The pulse of the future.”

It embodies our aspiration as DIGITAL HOLDINGS to support companies through digital shift, so that all Japanese companies and people can believe in a future of unbridled hope and aspiration, and continue to take the challenge, time and again.

“Digital technology” is not simply about the pursuit of greater efficiency. It also plays an important role in the creation of new social value and meaning for all companies and all people. We regard digital technology as indispensable infrastructure for bringing them enduring prosperity.

The impact of COVID-19 has significantly changed conventional values, dramatically transforming the way that companies and businesses operate in society, and the way that people work. The necessity and urgency of digital shift are increasing across the board. Digital shift holds the key to Japan’s future.

At DIGITAL HOLDINGS, we hope to create a society where growth is sustainable; one that can adapt to factors such as the population decline and the environmental changes facing Japan. By leveraging digital technology to help all Japanese companies achieve their transformation, we aspire to create a strong and vibrant future for the next generation. Our Mission Statement, “Digital technology — The pulse of the future” expresses our determination to be the “pulse” of all people and companies, providing new life and vigor.

■ Release of the Mission Statement Video

We have produced a video to mark the establishment of our new Mission Statement.

Through the Mission Statement, we hope to convey the idea that digital shift helps overcome the seemingly insurmountable limits of time, distance, industry, age, gender, and oneself. In the video, we have expressed this worldview as the seven continents and seven oceans.

The music that accompanies these images was composed specifically for this video. This original composition is based on a heartbeat - the “pulse” that forms the keyword conveying our determination under the Mission Statement. Through an instrumental ensemble, the music expresses the future illuminated by digital shift. The video features two soundtracks with different arrangements: one for piano and one for guitar. Please take time to enjoy the different expressions of the video as they change along with the music.

The kind of reality that comes from talking one-on-one. The kind of words that can create the contours of the future. The meaning of digital technology, and the meaning of life... I gave shape to the flood of thoughts that crossed my mind as I was talking with the people at DIGITAL HOLDINGS. The 14 skies that stretch vertically across the screen show the sunrise over seven oceans and seven continents. The music that accompanies the images is carved into the rhythm of a heartbeat. This symbolizes the pulse in the company slogan. The words of the Mission rise into the sky to the sound of the pulse. I pursued that feeling of scale.

The year 2020. The way we connect to people, the way we connect to the world, changed dramatically. In this period of transition between eras, how should we visualize the message? Our discussions were also shifted online, but I gained a real sense that we were still connected, and that the future would be created through people and digital technology. I decided to express this connection, and this future, as the skies at sunrise around the world. The sunrise over each of the seven oceans and seven continents is unique, but is made into something glorious by being connected with the others, and being part of the whole. I aimed for visuals that hinted at the existence of just such a future.

By pursuing the use of digital technology, companies are able to contribute to social value while growing and developing in the long term. This paves the way for people to find happiness through their own individuality, and allows us to create a bright future. I wanted to translate these aspirations welling from the hearts of the company's senior managers into words and visual images. Through the use of digital technology, companies and people confronted with COVID-19 can strive ahead with high aspirations. Rising to the occasion. Making the future bright. I hope that these become the motto of DIGITAL HOLDINGS, reborn anew on July 1, 2020.
